Alleged Stalker Questioned: 'Yet What If I Might Be Madeleine?'
A female indicted with harassing Kate McCann apparently deposited her a phone message which asked: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who court testimony revealed has consistently claimed she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are on trial charged with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court learned phone records and evidence retrieved from phones logged Ms Wandelt consistently asking Madeleine's mother for a genetic test throughout the past two years.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a trip in Portugal - is one of the most publicized child disappearance cases and continues to be open.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
A separate phone message, shared in court, recorded Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine was, but I feel what I know."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's answerphone said: "Imagine there is a tiny probability that I'm her? Then what? Is that not significant for you?"
"I do not need money, I possess a life here in Poland, I just want to know," she added.
The tribunal was informed that via emails, SMS messages and communications, Ms Wandelt asked for a DNA test, transmitted youth pictures to her phone in a effort to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and asserted to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, a data specialist with law enforcement who compiled the evidence, informed the court there "seemed to lack any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore contacted acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the communication logs.
On that date, Gerry McCann picked up a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "the wrong phone."
During that incident Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's voicemail saying "I will persist and I intend to demonstrate my claim."
The court learned the co-defendant developed a association via internet with Ms Wandelt preceding assisting her on a visit to the McCanns' home in Leicestershire in that winter.
Call logs revealed Mrs Spragg had contacted using WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to express the media had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she should be taken seriously in the period preceding the trip to Rothley, that area, in December 2024.
The court learned message exchanges between the two accused, in that autumn, considering endeavoring to get Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her bins or from utensils at a eating establishment.
"We have to make a stand," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.
On the night of the appearance to their residence, the defendant transmitted a message which stated: "We are positioned outside the McCanns' house with our headlights off similar to investigators. I wanted to achieve this with Peter Andrew I didn't imagine I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
The case continues.
