Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and were in contact with the NFL.
The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, Rice finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
